Invatech signs Beacon Digital to supply PCS nationally


Invatech Health has extended its relationship with Beacon Digital Limited to market and sell the Proactive Care System (PCS) exclusively to care homes and independent community pharmacies in England.

Under the new deal which commenced on 1st January 2015, Beacon Digital will promote and market Invatech’s solutions to independent community pharmacies and care homes. The Beacon Digital Team will also provide the training, implementation and ongoing support for participating care homes and pharmacies.

Since its launch in early 2014, Beacon Digital has successfully launched a unique care home medicines management proposition in Wales using the PCS system with funding support from the Health Telecommunication and Telehealth Fund (HTTF) which will see the introduction of electronic medicines safety solution to 50 care homes in Wales.

Invatech Health re-launches new look PCS with outstanding success


The management team at Invatech Health have been celebrating the success of the implementation of their new look PCS system which went live in its first care home on 17th November 2014.

The launch of the new look tablet PCS comes only 4 months after Invatech Health acquired the IP of PCS and CAPA. During this time the system has been completely redeveloped so it can be provided by local pharmacies.

Tariq Muhammad, CEO of Invatech Health, said “This is a major milestone in our company and we are delighted to have reached this point in such a short space of time. The positive feedback we have received from both the care home and the pharmacy has made the hard work getting to this point worthwhile.”

Lakeview care home, with almost 200 beds, is amongst the largest in the UK. The home, a previous PCS user, was adversely impacted when Pharmacy Plus was unable to supply drugs and went into administration. The home was forced to return to a national supplier on the traditional paper based system, however, found itself committing a disproportionate amount of time to maintaining medicine stock levels and managing prescriptions under this system.

When Lakeview became aware that their medication would be supplied by their local pharmacy utilising the CAPA system, in conjunction with PCS, the decision was easy for the home and they became Invatech Health’s first care home, acting as a pathfinder. The care home have been very engaged and optimistic about the decision to revert to new look PCS with Caroline Wood, Operations Director/Head of Care for Lakeview saying “The PCS System is easy to use and provides data evidence of safe administration of medication”.

Tariq also recognises the value of the CAPA system to local independent pharmacies in competition with large national pharmacy chains. Pleck pharmacy, a local independent pharmacy, won the contract to supply Lakeview care home from a large national on the back of being able to supply PCS to the care home.

The pharmacy will support the care home with advanced clinical services using the technology now that they visibility of the stock levels and administration data at the pharmacy. As well as substantially increasing its business, Pleck pharmacy has also benefited significantly from not having to provide blister pack dispensing and instead operate a highly efficient barcode dispensing process using the CAPA system and Original Pack Dispensing. Taseen Iqbal, co-owner of Pleck Pharmacy, said “I believe that independent pharmacies can offer services which match those of the larger chain and improve patient safety unlike ever before”.

Role Overview – Summary of the role is as follows:
IntroductionSummary: The self-managing role provides support to Care Homes and Pharmacies on Beacon Digital Systems throughout the implementation process, until fully embedded. This will involve training, troubleshooting, responding to queries and issue resolution.As the role operates in the healthcare sector an understanding of medicine management will enable the job holder to engage with key stakeholders in a credible manner and provide empathetic and professional solutions to the challenges that Care Homes face.

The incumbents desire to improve safety and compliance will be delivered through a proactive, communicative and partnering approach with all stakeholders. This requires an organised, methodical but flexible style.

The job holder is required to be mobile throughout South Wales and the role is any 5 days in 7 dependent on the business need.

Main Purpose:  To pro-actively manage the implementation of Beacon’s electronic medicines management systems into Care Homes and Pharmacies.
Key Performance Areas:  -       Compliance with assigned ways of working, including all aspects of the implementation process including pro-active planning;-       Quality and frequency of Care Home and Pharmacy visits;

-       Quality of GP visits;

-       Effective delivery of training to agreed format and required standard;

-       Generation of accurate and timely reports as requested by stakeholders.

Skills Profile

Main Duties

  • To promote, engage and raise awareness of the Beacon/ABMU project on an ongoing basis to all appropriate stakeholders and other interested parties
  • To support the development and delivery of PCS training direct to nurses and carers to include implementation and go live phases aligned to the agreed roll out programme
  • To support care home staff  on an ongoing basis in addressing any operational or technical requirements
  • To promptly escalate concerns, issues, user feedback or identified risks to the Beacon project manager
  • To attend and contribute to care home and pharmacy focus groups and study days aligned to the needs of nurses, carers and pharmacy staff.
  • To liaise, intervene , facilitate and support  care home staff and pharmacy teams as appropriate to ensure that  their accountabilities are well defined and understood and that  medicines management processes are being delivered aligned to Standard operating procedures and best practices
  • To attend and contribute to project team meetings or conference calls as determined by the Beacon Project manager
  • To share agreed personal development objectives with the Beacon project Manager for consideration and support throughout the project
